The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Homecoming directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Donald Glover, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryJurassic World, Doctor Strange). Opening in limited release is the indie drama A Ghost Story written and directed by David Lowery and starring Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara, Will Oldham, Sonia Acevedo, Rob Zabrecky and Liz Franke. Daniel Hart (Pete’s DragonAin’t Them Bodies SaintsTumbledown,Film Music Magazine CometThe Exorcist) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Opening in New York before expanding to more markets next weekend is the documentary City of Ghosts directed by Matthew Heineman about the journey of “Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently” – a handful of anonymous activists who banded together after their homeland was taken over by ISIS in 2014. The film’s original music is composed by H. Scott Salinas (Birth of the DragonThe Ivory Game) & Jackson Greenberg who previously scored Heineman’s Cartel Land. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The documentary premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by Amazon Studios and IFC Films. Visit the official movie website for more information.

Also opening in limited release is the western Hickok directed by Timothy Woodward, Jr. and staring Luke Hemsworth, Trace Adkins, Kris Kristofferson, Bruce Dern, Cameron Richardson, Kaiwi Lyman and Hunter Fischer. Andrew Joslyn (American Violence) has composed the film’s original music. Hickok follows the title characters who is on the run from the law when he rides into Abilene, Kansas – the most hedonistic town west of the Mississippi. The western is being released in theaters and on VOD by Cinedigm.

Also opening in select cities is the comedy Austin Found directed by Will Raee and starring Linda Cardellini, Kristen Schaal, Craig Robinson, Skeet Ulrich, Ursula Parker, Patrick Warburton, Jon Daly, Chris Parnell and Matt Jones. The film’s original music is composed by Ryan Franks Scott Nickoley (South ParkArsenal, Hell and Back). No soundtrack album has been released. The movie follows a 36-year-old wife and mother whose hunger for fame and fortune leads her down a dangerous path. The comedy is being released in theaters and on VOD by Gravitas Ventures.
