dark-angelMaking its U.S. debut tonight is the British mini-series Dark Angel developed by Gwyneth Hughes based on David Wilson’s book Mary Ann Cotton: Britain’s First Female Serial Killer and starring Joanne Froggatt, Alun Armstrong, Penny Layden, Laura Morgan, Jonas Armstrong, Sam Hoare, Emma Fielding and John Hollingworth. Michael J McEvoy (Me and Orson WellesForget Me Not) has composed the film’s original music. The 2-parter premiered in the UK last fall and will air in the U.S. on PBS. dirty-dancingPremiering on Wednesday, May 24, is the ABC event movie Dirty Dancing directed by Wayne Blair and starring Abigail Breslin, Debra Messing, Bruce Greenwood, Nicole Scherzinger, Sarah Hyland, Tony Roberts, Katey Sagal, Billy Dee Williams, Colt Prattes and J. Quinton Johnson. Virgin Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film performed by the cast, as well a new version of Be My Baby by Bea Miller. downward-dogMissing from last week’s TV music roundup was the new ABC comedy Downward Dog created by Samm Hodges & Michael Killeen and starring Allison Tolman, Lucas Neff, Barry Rothbart, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Hodges himself. The show’s original music is composed by Daniel Bracken. The series revolves around a lonely dog that navigates the complexity of 21st century relationships.
