Stephen Warbeck has recently recorded his score for the upcoming British drama Hampstead. The film is directed by Joel Hopkins (Last Chance Harvey, Jump Tomorrow) and stars Diane Keaton, Brendan Gleeson and James Norton. The movie centers on an American widow who finds unexpected love with a man living wild on Hampstead Heath when they take on the developers who want to destroy his home. Robert Festinger (In the Bedroom, Trust) wrote the screenplay. Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae (Nowhere Boy, Becoming Jane, Black Death, The Water Horse) are producing the project for Ecosse Films. The Weinstein Company has recently picked up domestic distribution rights for the film. A release in 2017 is expected.
Warbeck’s upcoming feature projects also include the drama Making Noise Quietly directed by Dominic Dromgoole and starring Deborah Findlay, Barbara Marten, Trystan Gravelle, Geoffrey Streafeild, Luke Thompson and Matthew Tennyson. The movie based onRobert Holman’s stage play of the same title and produced by Alexandra Breede & Jacob Thomas is expected to be released later this year. As previously reported, the composer also scored the comedy The Time of Their Lives, which is set to be released in the UK on March 10.

We just sat through this film. The “score” was an endless loop of what can best be described as a cute jingle. Utterly lacking in in creativity; after hearing it monotonously repeated throughout the film it became as annoying as a TV jingle heard ad nauseam. Film scores can add so much to a film. Stephen Warbeck’s vapid ‘score’ in this film is the worst film score I’ve heard in over 60 years of film viewing.
