alien-covenantThe first trailer for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant reveals that Jed Kurzel has taken over scoring duties on the movie. The film starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England and Benjamin Rigby follows the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, as they discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. John Logan (GladiatorThe AviatorPenny Dreadful) has written the screenplay. Scott (Alien, Prometheus, The Blade Runner) is also producing the project with Mark Huffam (The Martian, Johnny English), Michael Schaefer (Exodus: Gods and Kings), David Giler (Alien 3, AVP: Alien vs. Predator) and Walter Hill (48 Hrs, The Warriors). Harry Gregson-Williams was originally scoring the film. Alien: Covenant is set to be released on May 19, 2017 by 20th Century Fox. Visit the official movie website for updates.

Kurzel has previously composed the music for Fox’s Assassin’s Creed, which is currently playing in theaters nationwide. His other previous scoring credits include Macbeth, The Babadook, Son of the Gun and The Snowtown Murders. He also scored Benedict Andrews’ Una starring Ben Mendelsohn & Rooney Mara, which premiered at this year’s Telluride & Toronto Film Festivals and is currently awaiting a domestic distribution deal.

  1. Macejko says:

If you have such a raging hard-on for the Kurzels, Michael, go screw them on a couch somewhere and don’t drag them to a potentially good movies, please. Jed Kurzel is a terrible composer, his AC was almost painful to listen to.

    • saw says:

i heard differently, and he’s done other scores too like macbeth and the babadook

      • BB says:

Funny you say that. A guy who finds ALL the works performed by RC, “excellent.” The dirty talking about the poorly washed … Who are you to call him a terrible composer? You’re another frustrated fanboy.

  2. Bart Oss says:

    Haha! 😀
I think it’s good composer, but if requires for action a solid and strong music, then they’ve got the wrong composer…

‘Alien: Covenant is set to be released on May 19, 2016 by 20th Century Fox’

Yeah, I’ve seen the movie seven months ago and it was horrible.

  4. Louis says:

Pity that Harry Gregson-Williams isn’t doing it anymore, he would’ve nailed it. Should’ve done a Reaction GIF when Harry announced he quitted the project. 🙁

  5. Kreng says:

Seriously? Is this the level of communication here?

  6. Carlos says:

It’s sad indeed that HGW isn’t doing this movie anymore, his previous collaborations with Ridley Scott, Kingdom of Heaven and The Martian, were among his very best efforts.

Anyway, I’m not sure if Fassbender has enough power on this movie to fire a composer and to hire another one, but he probably was the one who introduced Kurzel to Scott – which still doesn’t explain why did Scott decided not to reteam with HGW again.

  7. Roger says:

    Cliff Martinez would be perfect

  8. Lamzhihang says:

Hope this will be not like assassin’s creed music

  9. zhihang says:

    kan ni nia chi bai

  10. Bennet says:

Macejko is right. The Assassins Creed Score is terrible to listen to.
If you think about the the video game releases, every game has some kind of theme and a musical feeling for the whole game.
The movie score did not. It has no theme. There is alsmost a new melody in every scene. The “acoustic feelings” of the scenes do not fit together. That’s my opinion.

I did not managed to listen to his other scores, except babadook while I was watching the film. It felt okay for the film. But I didn’t heard the other scores. I am jsut talking about the Assassins Creed score.

And no: I am not just a frustated fanboy … I am a working composer, too.
