johann-johannssonDarren Aronofsky revealed at a Master Class at the Reykjavík Film Festival that Johann Johannsson will be composing the music for the director’s next, currently untitled movie. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson and Ed Harris. The drama centers on a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. Aronofsky has also written the screenplay and is producing the project with Scott Franklin and Ari Handel (Jackie). It marks Johannsson’s first collaboration with Aronofsky. Clint Mansell has previously scored all of the director’s previous features, including Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The WrestlerBlack Swan and Noah. The film is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2017 by Paramount Pictures. (Indiewire)

Johannsson’s most recent project, Arrival recently premiered at various film festivals and will be released in the U.S. on November 11. The composer also has Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 and James Marsh’s drama The Mercy coming up.

  1. Darren says:

Now that is an interesting choice. I wonder why Clint Mansell isn’t doing this one. Johannsson is however one of the good upcoming composers.

  2. David says:

Given how good Mansell’s work with Aronofsky has been, Johannsson has some massive shoes to fill. Oh well – we still have Mute to look forward to.

  3. ubirajara says:

Apparently, Johánnsson replaced Mansell on the realm of indie film composers with whom everyone wants to work with, including Aronofsky.

But I wonder what happened for him not to call his (former) favorite composer, after all, Aronofsky was responsible for introducing Mansell to the film score world. I don’t remember they fighting or disagreeing on one of their previous movies…

  4. Dylan Emery says:

It’s probably due to the fact that Clint Mansell is currently scoring Duncan Jones’ MUTE.
