marvel-studiosIt was announced at Comic-Con today that Michael Giacchino composed a fanfare for the new logo of Marvel Studios, which will be playing in front of all future Marvel feature releases. The music was recorded a couple of weeks ago at Abbey Road Studios in London. Check out the fanfare after the jump. Giacchino is currently scoring his first movie for Marvel, Doctor Strange directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rachel McAdams., which will be released on November 4, 2016. Brian Tyler has previously composed a fanfare for Marvel, which was featured in front of several Marvel productions over the last couple of years.

    That was amazing!!!!!

  2. B says:

Such a shame. This is fantastic, but it feels unnecessary. Brian Tyler’s fanfare was great and only like three years old. Tyler got shafted.

  3. SDH says:

This kind of makes me think something real nasty must have happened during Tyler’s last gig with Marvel.

    • Stanxv says:

Of course things got nasty. They brought in Danny Elfman to ‘save’ the movie (Elfman’s own words). Obviously Marvel didn’t like the way Tyler was taking things, so they brought in different musical talent to salvage the score. Tyler must have felt betrayed by Feige and the Marvel team, so they quietly part ways and wash their hands of each other. That’s why Ant-Man didn’t feature Tyler’s fanfare. I personally liked Tyler’s IM3 and Thor scores, but Avengers was a true disappointment with just generic ‘action themes’. In my opinion, good riddance. Tyler will continue to find work, and Marvel deserves strong musical talent.

You’re wrong! Tyler’s busy recording schedule for Furious 7 was responsible for a conflict, that left him unable to compose new music and record around late edits to the film. At this time he was at Abbey Road at Furious 7 recording session. Marvel don’t fired him! Elfman’s name was listed as “additional music” at the movie poster.

        • Justin Boggan says:

Tyler has people he works with that do additional scoring for him or even as a co-composer, liek the recent “Criminal”. All he had to was suggest one of probably half a dozen composers he knew/works with, and the winner could have done the additional music while Tyler was tied up, but instead they decided to leave the Tyler camp and go to the tried and trusted Danny Elfman. Furthermore it’s infinitesimally RARE to credit an additional music composer on a poster, let alone one that had nothing to do with the main composer.

        • David says:

          FF7 was recorded in LA.

    • AntonioE1778 says:

Here’s what ACTUALLY happened: According to some insider sources, part of Tyler’s contract that he signed with Marvel included an exclusivity clause. The contract that Tyler signed stated that he was to be exclusive to Disney/Marvel for the duration of the process for Avengers: Age of Ultron. He broke the terms of that contract when the schedule for Furious 7 started overlapping with Avengers 2. It looks like Tyler intentionally did not honor the terms of their agreement. Marvel was (understandably) pissed and that’s when they hired Danny Elfman. Brian Tyler now unfortunately has a reputation for being untrustworthy. This is understandable since he did unceremoniously break the terms of the contract he signed with them. So yeah… that means that he likely won’t be back for any Marvel films in the future.

I like Brian Tyler. His music is consistently great and exciting and I look forward to every release. But he broke a contract here, so nobody can blame Disney for ousting him.

      • Chris Ayres says:

Do you have a link to your source? Not that I don’t believe you, I’m just curious.

      • Randy Watson says:

Well, it wasn’t entirely Tyler’s fault. He had already signed on to score Furious 7 but that one was delayed due to Paul Walker’s death, resulting in the overlap with Age of Ultron.

        • Justin Boggan says:

Well, you could argue it is his fault. Assuming Furious 7 didn’t have an exclusivity clause, he knowingly signed onto the Marvel one that apparently did and didn’t bow out of the FF7 one. But it’s just a speculatory arugment — we’ll never known, and probably shouldn’t, the legal terms that he signed on for. It’s kind of not our business.

  4. Joshua says:

All of this just confirms what we already knew, Feige and Marvel could give two shits about their composers.

  5. richard says:

Indeed, executives know zilch about music and base their choices and decisions on social and personal relatationship aspects. Tyler is a good composer, so if Elfman. I doubt Feige can tell the difference between bernard hermann and hans zimmer beyond the fact the second is infinitely easier to get along with and the first one is dead. This is pure hollywood personal crap. What saves these executives is that they have an available pool of the best composers in the world, so it really takes determination and intensive idiocy to go wrong, though sometimes they do when they hire somebody who they think is “cool” and can’t score for shit. If you ask me, they should have asked Alan Silvestri to do their new fanfare if they so desperately needed to change it. Giaghinno’s stuff always sounds lifted, two bars from here, four bars from there. But hey, the orchestration sounds good and most people can’t really appreciate or understand any of this stuff. It is just “a song” with no lyrics for them. Why didn’t they just hire Justin Bieber to do it? Why indeed.

    • TMMT says:

      Hahaha well said.
Was originally pissed about the new logo, you’ve made my day

  6. I’m all for this but what happened to the one by Brian Tyler?!?!?!

  7. Gator5000e says:

Irrespective of who caused what between Tyler and Marvel, the new fanfare really lacks any pizzazz and fire. Even if they parted ways with Tyler, they could have kept the fanfare. Or used Silvertri’s Avengers theme. I like most of Giacchino’s work, but this new fanfare left me feeling flat.

  8. John C says:

Huh. Kinda just sounds like Brian Tyler’s Iron Man theme and the previous Marvel theme with all the triplets and such. I love Giacchino’s work but this is just unnecessary. Still, its great to get Marvel themes from two of my favorite composers. Maybe Giacchino will be Marvel’s new musical work horse.
