Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

mothers-dayOpening in most theaters is the ensemble romantic comedy Mother’s Day directed by Garry Marshall and starring Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Julia Roberts and Jason Sudeikis. The film’s original music is composed by John Debney (The Passion of the ChristThe Jungle BookElfIron Man 2) who previously scored Valentine’s DayNew Year’s Eve and The Princess Diaries movies for the director. keanuAlso opening wide is the comedy Keanu directed by Peter Atencio and starring Jordan Peele, Keegan-Michael Key, Tiffany Haddish, Method Man, Jason Mitchell, Luis Guzman, Nia Long and Will Forte. Steve Jablonsky (TransformersEnder’s GameDesperate Housewives) and Nathan Whitehead (The Purge series, Delirium) have composed the film’s original music. ratchet-and-clankAlso opening nationwide this weekend is the animated feature Ratchet & Clank directed by Kevin Munroe and featuring the voices of of Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Bella Thorne, Sylvester Stallone, Rosario Dawson, James Arnold Taylor, David Kaye, Armin Shimerman and Jim Ward. Evan Wise & Jingle Punks have composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as the original song Bad News Travels Fast by Jelly Roll feat. JR Moore. papaOpening semi-wide in around 300 theaters is the drama Papa: Hemingway in Cuba directed by Bob Yari and starring Giovanni Ribisi, Adrian Sparks, Joely Richardson and Minka Kelly. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Isham (CrashA River Runs Through ItOnce Upon a TimeAmerican Crime). No soundtrack album has been released. Papa follows a young journalist who ventures to Havana, Cuba to meet his idol, Ernest Hemingway, who helps him find his literary voice while the Cuban Revolution comes to a boil around them. The drama is being released by the Yari Film Group.

a-beautiful-planetOpening in select IMAX theaters is the documentary A Beautiful Planet directed by Toni Myers and narrated by Jennifer Lawrence. Micky Erbe and Maribeth Solomon (Earth: Final Conflict) who have previously collaborated with the director on such films as Hubble 3DUnder the Sea 3D and Space Station 3D have composed the movie’s original music. the-family-fangOpening in New York before expanding to more cities within the next few weeks is the comedy drama The Family Fang directed by Jason Bateman who also stars in the movie with Nicole Kidman, Christopher Walken, Maryann Plunkett, Kathryn Hahn and Jason Butler Harner. The film’s original music is composed by Carter Burwell (Fargo, No Country for Old MenTwilightCarolTrue Grit). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. the-man-who-knew-infinityAlso opening in limited release is the drama The Man Who Knew Infinity directed by Matthew Brown and starring Dev Patel, Jeremy Irons, Devika Bhise, Stephen Fry and Toby Jones. Coby Brown has composed the film’s original music. term-lifeAlso opening in select theaters is the thriller Term Life directed by Peter Billingsley and starring Vince Vaughn, Hailee Steinfeld, Bill Paxton, Jordi Molla, Terrence Howard, Jon Favreau, William Levy, Mike Epps, Taraji P. Henson and Cain Velasquez. The film’s original music is composed by Dave Porter (Breaking BadBetter Call SaulThe Blacklist). No soundtrack album has been announced. Term Life follows a criminal who takes out an insurance policy on himself to benefit his estranged daughter. The thriller is being released in theaters and on VOD by Focus World.

doughAnother limited release this week is the comedy Dough directed by John Goldschmidt and starring Jonathan Pryce, Pauline Collins, Jerome Holder, Philip Davis, Ian Hart, Malachi Kirby, Andrew Ellis, Natasha Gordon, Melanie Freeman and Daniel Caltagirone. Lorne Balfe (Terminator Genisys13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of BenghaziHomePenguins of Madagascar) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Dough  centers on the unlikely friendship between an old Jewish baker trying to save his family business and a young Muslim refugee from Darfur trying to help his mother by selling cannabis. The comedy is being released in the U.S. by Menemsha Films.

vivaAlso opening in select cities is the coming-of-age drama Viva directed by Paddy Breathnach and starring Jorge Perugorría, Luis Alberto García, Héctor Medina, Luis Manuel Álvarez, Renata (Maikel Machín Blanco) and Laura Alemán. The film’s original music is composed by Stephen Rennicks (RoomFrankRebellion). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score.
