Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:

allegiantOpening in most theaters is the sci-fi adventure The Divergent Series: Allegiant directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Jeff Daniels, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort and Maggie Q. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph Trapanese (OblivionStraight Outta Compton) who previously scored last year’s Insurgent. Island Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original end credits song Scars by Tove Lo. Check out our previous article for the full album details.

miracles-from-heavenAlready in theaters since this past Wednesday is the drama Miracles From Heaven directed by Patricia Riggen and starring Jennifer Garner, Queen Latifah, Martin Henderson, John Carroll Lynch, Kylie Rogers and Eugenio Derbez. Carlo Siliotto (The Punisher, FlukeNomad: The Warrior) who previously collaborated with the director on Under the Same Moon has composed the film’s original music. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. the-bronzeAlso opening wide is the indie comedy The Bronze directed by Bryan Buckley and starring Melissa Rauch, Gary Cole, Thomas Middleditch, Sebastian Stan, Cecily Strong and Haley Lu Richardson. The film’s original music is composed by Andrew Feltenstein John Nau (Anchorman 2: The Legend ContinuesCasa De Mi Padre, BacheloretteSleeping with Other People), who also worked on the movie’s original songs. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The comedy premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by Sony Pictures Classics. Visit the official movie website for more information.

midnight-specialOpening in limited release is the sci-fi drama Midnight Special written and directed by Jeff Nichols and starring Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst, Adam Driver, Jaeden Lieberher, Sam Shepard, Bill Camp, Scott Haze and Paul Sparks. David Wingo (Our Brand Is CrisisAll the Real GirlsMaggie) who previously scored the director’s Take Shelter and Mud has composed the film’s original music. the-confirmationAlso opening in limited release is the indie drama The Confirmation written and directed by Bob Nelson and starring Clive Owen, Maria Bello, Patton Oswalt, Jaeden Lieberher, Matthew Modine, Robert Forster, Stephen Tobolowsky and Tim Blake Nelson. The film’s original music is composed by Jeff Cardoni (CSI: MiamiThe GrinderJust FriendsMike and Dave Need Wedding Dates). No word yet on a soundtrack release. The Confirmation follows an 8-year-old boy and his estranged father who are two days together for the first time in forever. The drama is being released by Lionsgate/Saban Films in theaters and on VOD.

the-programAlso opening in select cities is the biographical drama The Program directed by Stephen Frears and starring Ben Foster, Chris O’Dowd, Guillaume Canet, Jesse Plemons, Lee Pace, Denis Menochet and Dustin Hoffman. Alex Heffes (The Last King of ScotlandState of PlayMandela: Long Walk to Freedom11.22.63) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Ramones, Primal Scream, Lemonheads, Leonard Cohen & more was released overseas last year when the movie opened in the UK. krishaAnother limited release this week is the indie drama Krisha written and directed by Trey Edward Shults and starring Krisha Fairchild, Robyn Fairchild, Bill Wise, Trey Edward Shults, Chris Doubek, Olivia Grace Applegate, Alex Dobrenko and Chase Joliet. The film’s original music is composed by Brian McOmber (UglyStockholm, Pennsylvania). No soundtrack album has been released. Krisha is set in Texas and follows a family over a turbulent Thanksgiving weekend. The drama premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released by A24 Films. my-golden-daysAlso opening in select theaters is the French drama My Golden Days co-written and directed by Arnaud Desplechin and starring Quentin Dolmaire, Lou Roy-Lecollinet and Mathieu Amalric. Grégoire Hetzel (IncendiesThe Tree, Agnus Dei) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as Roxanne Shante’s song 1989 was released overseas last month.
