The most notable omission from the list is the Golden Globe-nominated score for The Revenant<> composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto & Alva Noto. Also reportedly submitted was Atticus Ross’ score for Love & Mercy, although it was expected that it would not make the cut given that it extensively incorporates Brian Wilson’s music. Other omissions include Joe Kraemer’s score for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, which heavily used Lalo Schifrin’s classic theme, Avengers: Age of Ultron scored by Brian Tyler & Danny Elfman (which thematically was dominated by Alan Silvestri’s theme from the first movie), David Lang’s score for Paolo Sorrentino’s Youth, which features large amounts of music from other sources, as well as Fernando Velazquez’s music for Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak (Tim Davies contributed 25 minutes of additional score to the project, which likely factored into the decision).
