rob-simonsenRob Simonsen is reteaming with Zach Braff (Garden StateScrubs) on the upcoming caper comedy Going in Style. The film is a remake of Martin Brest’s 1979 movie of the same title and stars Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Joey King, Matt Dillon and Ann-Margret. The movie marks Braff’s third feature directorial effort and follows three retired men who lose their pensions when the company they’ve worked for their entire lives is sold to a foreign corporation, which makes them set out to try to rob the very bank that’s withholding their money. Theodore Melfi (St. Vincent) has written the screenplay. Donald De Line (The Italian JobPain & GainBody of Lies) is producing the New Line Cinema production. Simonsen has previously scored Braff’s last feature Wish I Was HereGoing in Style is set to be released on May 6, 2016 by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Simonsen also has the thriller Nerve coming up. The film is directed by Henry Joost & Ariel Schulman (CatfishParanormal Activity 3 & 4) and stars Emma Roberts, Dave Franco and Colson Baker. The movie is based on the YA novel by Jeanne Ryan and follows a high school senior who finds herself immersed in an online game of truth of dare, where her every move starts to become manipulated by an anonymous community of “watchers.” Jessica Sharzer (American Horror Story) has written the screenplay. Allison Shearmur (CinderellaPride and Prejudice and Zombies) is producing the project with Anthony Katagas (12 Years a SlaveKilling Them SoftlyTwo Lovers). Nerve is expected to be released in 2016.

The composer has previously collaborated with Joost and Schulman on the upcoming horror thriller Viral. The film’s cast includes Analeigh Tipton, Sofia Black-D’Elia and Michael Kelly. The movie follows two women who are put to the test to survive a city-wide quarantine when their county succumbs to the spread of a parasitic virus. Barbara Marshall’ (Triple Dog) wrote the Black List-honored screenplay. Jason Blum (Paranormal ActivityThe PurgeWhiplash) is producing the project for Blumhouse Productions alongside Matt Kaplan (The Lazarus Effect) for Chapter One Films and Sherryl Clark (Plush) for Busted Shark. Viral is set to be released on February 19, 2016 by Dimension Films.
