casualMateo Messina is composing the music for the new Hulu original series Casual. The show is created by Zander Lehmann and stars Tommy Dewey, Michaela Watkins and Tara Lynn Barr. The series centers on a dysfunctional family with a bachelor brother and his newly divorced sister who coach each other through the world of dating while living under the same roof again and raising a teenager. Jason Reitman has directed the first episodes and is also executive producing the Lionsgate Television production with Lehmann, Helen Estabrook (WhiplashMen, Women & Children) and Liz Tigelaar. Messina has previously scored Reitman’s indie hit Juno and also provided music for the director’s features Young AdultThank You for Smoking and Up in the AirRolfe Kent who scored several projects for Reitman, including 2013’s Labor Day has also written additional music for Casual. The comedy’s first season of 10 episodes will premiere on October 7, 2015 on Hulu.

truth-be-toldThe composer is also scoring the new NBC comedy Truth Be Told. The show is created by DJ Nash (Up All Night) based on his own life and stars Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tone Bell, Bresha Webb and Vanessa Lachey. Nash is also executive producing the Universal Television production with Will Packer (Ride AlongThink Like a ManThe Wedding Ringer) and Pamela Fryman (How I Met Your Mother). Messina has previously composed the music for the Nash-created NBC comedy Growing Up Fisher starring J.K. Simmons. Messina has also been hired to score the upcoming NBC comedy Superstore. The show is created by Justin Spitzer (The Office) and stars America Ferrera, Ben Feldman, Mark McKinney, Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, Nichole Bloom and Nico Santos. The series revolves around a unique family of employees at a super-sized mega store. Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) has directed the pilot episode and is also executive producing the Universal Television production with Spitzer and David Bernard.
