  1. Cindylover1969 says:

Not so much a step down from David Arnold as a freaking HALO jump.

  2. Brent says:

This has got to be some of the worst news I’ve ever heard.

  3. Bernd-Helmut Heine says:

    I am really disappointed!

  4. tiago says:

I’m really sad with that. Independence Day is one of Arnold’s best works. It would’ve been really cool if he came back. Unfortunately, he apparently doesn’t do blockbusters anymore, neither works with Emmerich, who now has his own (mediocres) composers.

  5. Yahzee says:

…now this is just stupid. Neither of them has ever composed a score that’s half as epic and melodic as David Arnold has. I know Emmerich loves working with those guys, but come on, it’s the freaking sequel to ID4 we’re talking about. Damn. Damn. Damn.

  6. Justin Boggan says:

In light of what we could have gotten, like Junkie XL or drum-hell Brian Tyler — hell, even Tyler Bates — we got pretty darn lucky this time.

    • tiago says:

I’m pretty sure Brian Tyler would’ve been a better choice than those two guys. Not so sure about Junkie and Bates, though.

      • MSM says:

Great disappointment. Too bad they don’t work with David Arnold any more, especially for this movie.

Tyler’s symphonic style would be great, but unfortunately he mostly does noisy electronic rhythm-based scores these days.

Another missed opportunity is a ID4 score by John Williams. Imagine how that would sound!

    • Tonedef says:

I could work with Brian Tyler. He has a good sense of action spectacle and melodic interludes, as well as weaving themes in and amongst it all. He also was good at taking Silvestri’s Avenger’s theme for Age of Ultron and he comments he appreciates continuity in works, so he probably would have utilised Arnold’s themes.
If Kloser/Wanker can utilise the themes from ID4, and just go all out on things, we may be in for a surprise… but saying that, they just don’t have tone or the style of Arnold, so it will be missed.

  7. Yura says:

What? This is a joke? I am disappointed…! Bring back David Arnold!

  8. Andre says:

    Seriously?

Has David really been relegated to tv composer?

    • Macejko says:

He’s better off scoring Sherlock than some idiotic action flick for morons.

  9. Argol says:

    Epic fail !!!. DAVID ARNOLD!!!!!

  10. Justin Boggan says:

I just want Thomas Wanker to co-score it with Chris P. Bacon, that way the credit would read: “Music by Bacon/Wanker”

  11. Bruno Costa says:

Oh. I want David Arnold back to scoring: “Independence Day: Resurgence” and not Harald Kloser and Thomas Wander.

Back in 1996, David Arnold composed the original “Independence Day” and now I want him back to scoring “Independence Day: Resurgence”.

He’s the best. David Arnold is the best.

  12. Michael says:

Not surprising, given Kloser’s collaboration on Emmerich’s recent films. Still, this is incredibly disappointing news. Many sites prematurely listed Arnold as the composer, which I knew was a long shot, yet I still held out hope that perhaps he would return.

Oh well. Guess we’ll have to settle for yet another forgettable score from Harald Kloser.

  13. Justin Boggan says:

You just can’t stop people from presuming an assignment and adding it — even to IMDb when not even announced. I remember a feew years ago when Morricone stated in an interview he wasn’t on the “Capone Rising” film yet that didnm’t stop people from adding it to his IMDb resume. The film is still in a development and still has him on there as composer.

  14. Kevin D. says:

This is disappointing. I was really hoping David Arnold would have come back.

I think Brian Tyler would have been a good replacement, or Steve Jablonsky (I just want to see Steve do more than “Transformers”! His “Steamboy” score is soooo good!)

  15. Debra Hansel says:

Gutted, that would have been the icing on the
20 year wait cake. Great with Geoff Goldblum
    and Bill Pullman can’t wait.’
