elliot-goldenthalThe American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has announced that composer Elliot Goldenthal will receive the organization’s Founder Award at the 30th annual Film & Television Music Awards, which will take place on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. The invitation-only dinner and awards ceremony will honor the composers and songwriters of the top box office film music, the most performed television music and the top video game music of 2014. The Founder Award is given to songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators. Previous recipients include Quincy Jones, Alan & Marilyn Bergman, Elmer Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Goldenthal’s film scoring credits include his Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning score for Julie Taymor’s Frida, his Academy Award-nominated scores for Interview with the Vampire and Michael Collins, as well as such titles as Heat, Batman Forever, Public Enemies and Alien 3. He also composed numerous works for the concert hall and theatrical productions. In addition, composer Deborah Lurie (Dear John, 9, An Unfinished Life, Safe Haven) will be honored with the ASCAP Shirley Walker Award, which was established last year to honor those whose achievements have contributed to the diversity of film and television music. ASCAP will also once again bestow its Composers’ Choice Awards at the ceremony, which are open to voting by all ASCAP writer members. and will be given out in three categories: Film Score of the Year, TV Composer of the Year and Video Game Score of the Year.
