edgar-froeseTangerine Dream founder Edgar Froese has passed away at age 70. According to the band’s official Facebook page, the composer suddenly and unexpectedly died on January 20 from the effects of a pulmonary embolism in Vienna. Froese founded the electronic music group Tangerine Dream in 1967. In addition to producing dozens of studio albums, the band was best known for composing the score for numerous films, including 1983’s Risky Business starring Tom Cruise, William Friedkin’s Sorcerer, Mihcael Mann’s The Keep and Thief, Ridley Scott’s Legend, 1988’s Miracle Mile, Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark, 1984’s Firestarter and 1987’s Three O’Clock High.

  1. Jacob says:

The ’71-75 roster (Baumann, Froese & Franke) of Tangerine Dream was (arguably) the apex and Froese was a constant mainstay no matter who else came aboard, it’s hard to imagine what the group’s output will be like without him.
