woman-in-black-2The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the horror sequel The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death directed by Tom Harper and starring Jeremy Irvine, Helen McCrory, Phoebe Cox and Oaklee Pendergast. The film’s original music is composed by  Marco Beltrami (Scream, World War Z3:10 to Yuma) who previously scored the first part in the series, as well as Marcus Trumpp and Brandon Roberts. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score earlier this week and a CD version is set to be released next week. a-most-violent-yearOpening in New York and Los Angeles this week before expanding nationwide later this month is the crime drama A Most Violent Year written and directed by J.C. Chandor and starring Oscar Isaac, Jessica Chastain, Alessandro Nivola, David Oyelowo and Albert Brooks. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero’s Alex Ebert who previously scored the director’s All is Lost has composed the film’s original music. Community Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as the original song America for Me. leviathanAlso opening in select cities is the Russian drama Leviathan directed by Andrey Zvyagintsev (The Return) and starring Aleksey Serebryakov, Elena Liadova, Vladimir Vdovichenkov, Roman Madianov, Anna Ukolova, Aleksey Rozin and Sergey Pokhodaev. Philip Glass (The Hours, Notes on a Scandal, Cassandra’s Dream) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. The drama, which is considered to be one of the frontrunners in the Best Foreign Language Film category at this year’s Academy Awards, premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and is being released by Sony Pictures Classics. rec-4Also opening in limited release is the horror sequel [REC] 4 Apocalypse directed by Jaume Balagueró and starring Manuela Velasco, Paco Manzanedo, Hector Colome, Ismael Fritschi, Crispulo Cabezas, Mariano Venancio and Maria Alfonsa Rosso. The film’s original music is composed by Arnau Bataller (The Red Band Society). ScreamWorks Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music this past fall when the movie opened overseas.
