boychoirBrian Byrne is scoring the upcoming drama Boychoir. The film is directed by François Girard and stars Dustin Hoffman, Kathy Bates, Josh Lucas, Kevin McHale, Eddie Izzard, Debra Winger and Garrett Wareing. The movie follows an orphaned 12-year-old boy who is sent to a prestigious music school where he struggles to join an elite group of world-class singers and clashes with the school’s demanding choir master. Ben Ripley (Source Code0 has written the script. Judy Cairo (Crazy HeartHysteriaStuck in Love), Carol Baum (Father of the BrideFly Away Home) and Jane Goldenring are producing the Informant Media production. Girard has previously worked together with composers Ryuchi Sakamoto on Silk and John Corigliano who won an Academy Award for The Red ViolinBoychoir will premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Byrne whose previous film scoring credits include Albert Nobbs, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination, and The Good Doctor has also composed the music for the comedy Jenny’s Wedding. The film is written and directed by Mary Agnes Donoghue (screenwriter of BeachesWhite Oleander and Veronica Guerin) and stars Katherine Heigl, Tom Wilkinson, Linda Emond and Grace Gummer. The movie follows a woman who causes a massive sea-change in the lives of her closely knit, highly conventional family when she finally decides to marry. Donoghue is also producing the project with casting director Gail Levin and Michelle Manning (The Eye). No release date has been announced yet. The composer’s upcoming projects also include the biographical drama The Price of Desire. The film is directed by Mary McGuckian (Man On The TrainThe Bridge Of San Luis Rey) and stars Shannyn Sossamon, Alanis Morissette and Vincent Perez. The movie tells the story of architect and designer Eileen Gray, a pioneer of architecture’s Modern Movement. No word yet on a release date for the drama.
