bmiBroadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) will continue its support for Sundance Institute’s Film Music Program, which collaborates with Skywalker Sound to host the Sundance Institute Music and Sound Design Labs at Skywalker Sound. The first 2014 session of the lab begins July 8 at Skywalker Ranch and provides an opportunity for composers and directors to explore the collaborative process of writing music for feature film. At the Lab, fellows work with a variety of Creative Advisors, including film composers, sound designers, filmmakers and film industry professionals. The program aims to give composers first-hand experience working on film music and sound design, and to give directors insight into the process as well. Participants of the 2014 Sundance Institute Music and Sound Design Lab include Feature Film Fellows Nikole Beckwith, Chloe Zhao, Gabriela Amaral Almeida, Jordana Spiro, Oorlagh George and Daniel Kwan; Composer Fellows KT Tunstall, Timo Chen, Josh Moshier, Katy Jarzebowski, Ryan Cohan and Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum. Creative Advisors are composers Harry Gregson-Williams, James Newton Howard, Blake Neely, Alan Silvestri and Alex Wurman; sound designer Randy Thom; film music agent Robert Messinger; BMI Vice President Doreen Ringer-Ross; and music editor Adam Smalley.
