randy-newmanRandy Newman has been chosen as the recipient of this year’s Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award, which will be presented at the annual Hollywood in Vienna Concert at Vienna Concert Hall on September 25, 2014.  The Max Steiner Award honors extraordinary achievements within the genre of film music by the musical capital of Austria, Vienna. Previous recipients of the honor include James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore, Lalo Schifrin and John Barry. Newman has written numerous songs and scores for films such as RagtimeThe NaturalA Bug’s Life, CarsParenthood, the Toy Story trilogy,  SeabiscuitAvalon and Meet the ParentsHe has received 20 Academy Award nominations and received the Oscar for the songs If I Didn’t Have You from Monsters, Inc. and We Belong Together from Toy Story 3. Selections of the composer’s work will be performed at the Hollywood in Vienna Concert and Newman will also join the orchestra on stage and perform some of his best known movie songs himself.
