Last night, Lifetime premiered the original movie The Gabby Douglas Story directed by Gregg Champion (The Cowboy Way) and starring Imani Hakim, Sydney Mikaylain, Regina King and S. Epatha Merkerson. The film’s original music is composed by Robert Duncan (Castle, Last Resort, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The drama tells the true story of the first African American ever to be named Individual All-round Champion in artistic gymnastics at the Olympics. Another film that premiered last night on Turner Classic Movies is the documentary And the Oscar Goes to… directed by Rob Epstein & Jeffrey Friedman (Lovelace) and narrated by Anjelica Huston. Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Monk, Appaloosa, Carnivale) has composed the film’s original score. The documentary tells the story of the little statuette that became the industry’s most coveted prize.
