legend-of-herculesOpening in roughly 2100 theaters is the 3D action adventure The Legend of Hercules directed by Renny Harlin and starring Kellan Lutz, Liam McIntyre, Gaia Weiss, Scott Adkins, Roxanne McKee and Liam Garrigan. The film’s original music is composed by Tuomas Kantelinen (Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan) who previously scored Harlin’s Mindhunters. No word yet on a soundtrack album. the-adventurerOpening in limited release is the family adventure The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box directed by Jonathan Newman and starring Michael Sheen, Lena Headey, Sam Neill, Ioan Gruffudd and Aneurin Barnard. Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, MamaDevil) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is in the works. The Adventurer is based on the novel by G.P. Taylor and follows a 17-year-old boy in Victorian England who is searching for his lost parents and is kidnapped in a mysterious luxury hotel. The movie is being released by Image Entertainment and The Film Arcade.

truth-about-emanuelAlso opening in select cities is the indie drama The Truth About Emanuel written and directed by Francesca Gregorini and starring Kaya Scodelario, Jessica Biel, Alfred Molina, Frances O’Connor, Jimmi Simpson and Aneurin Barnard. The film’s original score is composed by Nathan Larson (Silent House, Boys Don’t Cry, Dirty Pretty Things). No word on a soundtrack album. The Truth About Emanuel centers on a troubled girl who becomes preoccupied with her mysterious new neighbor who bears a striking resemblance to her dead mother. The drama premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Tribeca Film for domestic distribution. razeAnother limited release this week is the horror thriller Raze directed by Josh C. Waller and starring Zoë Bell, Rachel Nichols, Tracie Thoms, Doug Jones, Bruce Thomas and Sherilyn Fenn. Frank Riggio has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Raze follows a woman who is abducted and forced to do battle with other innocents for the amusement of unseen spectators. The horror thriller premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and was acquired by IFC Midnight for U.S. distribution. cold-comes-the-nightAlso opening in limited release is the thriller Cold Comes the Night directed by Tze Chu and starring Alice Eve, Logan Marshall-Green, Ursula Parker, Leo Fitzpatrick and Bryan Cranston. The film’s original score is composed by Jeff Grace (Meek’s Cutoff, We Are What We Are). No word on a soundtrack release, but check out two tracks from the score on Grace’s official website. The thriller follows a struggling motel owner and her daughter are taken hostage by a nearly blind career criminal to be his eyes as he attempts to retrieve his cash package from a crooked cop.
