divergentJunkie XL is currently working on the score for the film adaptation of the young adult novel Divergent. The movie is directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist, Limitless) and stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, Aaron Eckhart, Ray Stevenson, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ashley Judd and Maggie Q. The film based on Veronica Roth’s first of a trilogy of novels is set in a post-apocalytic Chicago divided into five factions and follows 16-year-old Beatrice Prior whose life changes dramatically when she switches factions. Vanessa Taylor (Hope Springs, Jack & Bobby) and Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman) have written the screenplay. Doug Wick (Gladiator, Stuart Little) and Lucy Fisher (The Great Gatsby, Memoirs of a Geisha) are producing the Summit Entertainment production through their Red Wagon company. Divergent is set to be released on March 21, 2014 by Lionsgate. For updates on the film, visit the official movie website.

Junkie XL aka Tom Holkenborg’s other upcoming projects also include George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult, as well as 300: Rise of an Empire.

  1. Macejko says:

Well, he better have some sweet skills in his arsenal. Three high-profile movies in one year and almost no experience as a main composer? Lucky bastard.

  2. Justin Boggan says:

He doesn’t need an arsenal, just a connection to Zimmer, and he’s OFF!

Shows you what the director and or producers think about the music…

    • Employee says:

these comments are so salty. !!

    • Alec says:

….eh, he’s better just remixing Zimmer’s compositions. I love his remixes, but his score to Paranoia was just dull

  3. Robinson says:

For those of us actually working in this business, the fanboy hater thing gets SO tedious. Good for him – he put in his time over there.

  4. Ds says:

It’s undeniable that Zimmer’s name is helpful. But from what I heard, Junkie XL got to do the 300 sequel after Zack Snyder has heard some of his additionnal cues from Man of Steel. So it’s not “undeserved”, he just got the attention of a powerful filmmaker. Like everything in life it’s a combination of work and luck.

I won’t judge until i’ve heard 300: Rise of an Empire, but i’m definitely curious to hear it!
