august-osage-countyGustavo Santaolalla has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming drama August: Osage County. The movie is directed by John Wells (The Company Men) and features and all-star cast including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Chris Cooper, Margo Martindale, Juliette Lewis, Abigail Breslin, Ewan McGregor, Julianne Nicholson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dermot Mulroney, Misty Upham and Sam Shepard. The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play by Tracy Letts (Bug, Killer Joe) and follows the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in. Letts has also written the screenplay. Harvey Weinstein and Jean Doumanian (Sweet and Lowdown) are producing the film with George Clooney & Grant Heslov (Argo, Good Night, and Good Luck). The movie will also feature a theme by composer Adam Taylor. Santaolalla is replacing Carter Burwell who was previously scoring the film as reported earlier this year and was credited as the composer in the film’s trailer. August: Osage County is set to be released on December 25, 2013 by the Weinstein Company. For updates on the drama, visit the official movie website.

As previously reported, the Academy Award-winning composer of such films as Brokeback Mountain and Babel also has the animated feature Book of Life (previously entitled The Day of the Dead) produced by Guillermo del Toro coming up.
