cliff-martinezCliff Martinez revealed in a recent interview with Hitfix that he will be scoring the French thriller Mea Culpa. The film is directed by Fred Cavaye and stars Vincent Lindon, Gilles Lellouche and Nadine Labaki. The movie centers on a pair of police officers and long-time partners, whose lives go into a tailspin when one of them causes a tragic car accident. Jean-Baptiste Dupont and Cyril Colbeau-Justin (36th District, My Way) are producing the LGM production. Cavaye has previously collaborated with composer Klaus Badelt on two of his previous features, Point BlankĀ and Anything for Her. Mea Culpa is set to be released in France in the first quarter of 2014. Fox International has acquired distribution rights for the US and other international territories earlier this year.

Martinez’s most recent project Only God Forgives directed by Nicolas Winding-Refn and starring Ryan Gosling in select theaters and on VOD this coming Friday, July 19.

    This guy is really coming into his own. The technical brilliance of his scores – and i appretiate that he is an acquired taste – are fluctuating between electronic manipulation, to orchestral subversion; they are beyond comparison. His John Carpenter influenced ‘Only God Forgives’ is miles apart from ‘Contagion;’ ‘Drive.’ Now with Soderbergh out of the picture, i hope he gets the assignments coming in fast. He is without doubt the best ambient composer of his generation. Ever since the atonal brilliance of ‘Traffic,’ Martinez continues to shine…God, that was gushing – for which i make no apologies.
