Michael Giacchino confirmed during a Q&A at a concert featuring the world premiere performance of his Star Trek score performed live to projection in Lucerne, Switzerland this weekend that he is attached to score Brad Bird’s upcoming sci-fi adventure Tomorrowland. The film is set to star George Clooney and Hugh Laurie. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but according to Hitfix, the movie is supposed to follow a “teenage girl, a genius middle-aged manand a pre-pubescent girl robot who attempt to get to and unravel what happened to Tomorrowland, which exists in an alternative dimension, in order to save Earth”. Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) is writing the screenplay with Bird based on a concept by himself and Jeff Jensen and is also producing the project with Bird. Tomorrowland will mark the composer’s fourth collaboration with Bird following Pixar’s The Incredibles & Ratatouille and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The film is set to start shooting this August in Vancouver and is scheduled to be released on December 19, 2014 by Walt Disney Pictures.
As previously reported, Giacchino also has Andy & Lana Wachowski’s sci-fi action tentpole Jupiter Ascending starring Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne & Douglas Booth coming up next year. The composer has also recently finished work on J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness. A soundtrack album will be released on May 14 by Varese Sarabande Records and the film is coming out on May 17.
