The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Incendies) and stars Hugh Jackman, Melissa Leo, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard and David Dastmalchian. The movie follows a small-town carpenter whose young daughter and best friend are kidnapped and discovers that elderly neighbors have been kidnapping and murdering children for years. Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband) has written the screenplay. Andrew Kosove & Broderick Johnson (The Blind SideInsomniaThe Book of Eli) are producing for Alcon Entertainment, along with Kira Davis for 8:38 Productions and Adam Kolbrenner for Madhouse Entertainment. 10-time Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall) is handling camera work. Prisoners is set to be released on September 20, 2013 by Warner Bros. Pictures.

As previously reported, Jóhannsson whose previous credits include the drama Personal Effects starring Michelle Pfeiffer & Ashton Kutcher and For Ellen starring Paul Dano has also scored the crime drama McCanick, which is expected to premiere later this year.
