Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:

gi-joe-retaliationAlready in theaters since yesterday is the action sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Dwayne Johnson, D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Adrianne Palicki, Jonathan Pryce, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum and Bruce Willis. The film’s score is composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It-Ralph). Varese Sarabande Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally. the-hostAlso opening wide is the sci-fi romance The Host directed by Andrew Niccol, based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer and starring Saoirse Ronan, Jake Abel, Max Irons, William Hurt, Diane Kruger, Chandler Canterbury and Frances Fisher. Antonio Pinto (City of God, Snitch) has composed the film’s original score. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring songs from and inspired by the film by artists including Imagine Dragons, Hudson Taylor, Skylar Grey, Ellie Goulding, Hudson Taylor, Duologue and Jamie N Commons, as well as one track from Pinto’s music. temptationThe third wide release of the week is the drama Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor written, directed and produced by Perry who also stars in the film alongside Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Lance Gross, Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Williams, Robbie Jones and Brandy Norwood. Aaron Zigman (The Notebook, The Proposal) who regularly works with Perry has composed the film’s original score. The movie follows an ambitious married woman whose temptation by a handsome billionaire leads to betrayal, recklessness and forever alters the course of her life. place-beyond-the-pinesOpening in limited release is the indie drama The Place Beyond the Pines directed by Derek Cianfrance and starring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne, Ray Liotta, Ben Mendelsohn, Dane DeHaan and Emory Cohen. Mike Patton who is best known as the lead singer of Faith No More and has previously written the music for Crank: High Voltage has composed the score. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring Patton’s score, as well as other tracks featured in the film by The Cryin’ Shames, Arvo Part, Ennio Morricone and Bon Iver. blancanievesAlso opening in limited release is the French fantasy drama Blancanieves directed by Pablo Berger and starring Maribel Verdu, Daniel Gimenez Cacho, Pere Ponce and Macarena Garcia. Alfonso de Vilalonga has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the score and other music used in the film has been released digitally earlier this week by Milan Records. welcome-to-the-punchAlready playing in select theaters since last Wednesday is the crime thriller Welcome to the Punch directed by Eran Creevy and starring James McAvoy, Mark Strong, Andrea Riseborough and Peter Mullan. Harry Escott (Shame, Hard Candy) has composed the film’s original score. Metropolis Movie Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score in the UK. mentalAlso opening in select cites is the comedy Mental directed by P.J. Hogan (Muriel’s Wedding, My Best Friend’s Wedding) and starring Toni Collette, Liev Schreiber and Anthony LaPaglia. Michael Yezerski (Drift, Storm Surfers 3D) has composed the film’s music. No soundtrack album has been announced. wrongsoundtrackThe final limited release of the week is the indie comedy Wrong directed by Quentin Dupieux and starring Jack Plotnick, Éric Judor, Alexis Dziena, William Fichtner, Steve Little and Mark Burnham. Tahiti Boy & Mr. Oizo have composed the film’s original music. Ed Banger Records has released a soundtrack album digitally last year when the movie opened in France.
