james-hornerJames Horner has been chosen as the recipient of this year’s Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award, which will be presented at the annual Hollywood in Vienna Concert at Vienna Concert Hall on October 4, 2013.  The Max Steiner Award honors extraordinary achievements within the genre of film music by the musical capital of Austria, Vienna. Previous recipients of the honor include Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore, Lalo Schifrin and John Barry. Horner has written over 100 film scores including the scores for the two biggest box office hits of all time, Titanic and Avatar. His other credits include Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind, Aliens, Apollo 13Legends of the FallField of Dreams, The Perfect Storm, House of Sand and Fog and The Amazing Spider-Man. The composer has been honored with ten Academy Award nominations and received the award twice for both his score and the song My Heart Will Go On from James Cameron’s Titanic. He has also won three Grammy Awards for Titanic, Glory and An American Tail. Horner most recently recorded his score for Carlo Carlei’s Romeo and Juliet, which is expected to be released later this year.
