Ludwig Göransson is scoring the upcoming indie drama Fruitvale. The film marks the feature directing debut of Ryan Coogler. The movie starring Michael B. Jordan, Octavia Spencer, Kevin Durand, Chad Michael Murray, Melonie Diaz, Ahna O’Reilly and Tristan Wilds tells the true story of Oscar Grant, a young black man detained on New Year’s Day 2009 by the Bay Area Rapid Transit police and shot in the back and killed. Coogler has also written the script for the film produced by Forest Whitaker and his Significant Productions partner Nina Yang (The Children of Huang Shi). Göransson whose best known scoring credits include NBC’s Community, FOX’s New Girl, ABC’s Happy Endings and last year’s feature 30 Minutes or Less has previously scored a couple of short films for the director. Fruitvale has just finished principal photography and is expected to be released in 2013.

Göransson’s music is also featured in the new NBC comedy Animal Practice. The show created by Brian Gatewood & Alex Tanaka (The Sitter) stars Justin Kirk as a top veterinarian with an impressive list of famous animal patients at the Crane Animal Hospital – a bustling New York City veterinary practice where it often seems as if the patients are running the place. JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Tyler Labine, Bobby Lee, Kym Whitley, Betsy Sodaro and Crystal the Monkey are co-starring in the series. Gatewood is also executive producing the show with Scot Armstrong (The Hangover Part II, Old School) and Ravi Nandan (Best Friends Forever), Gail Lerner (Happy Endings) and Joe & Anthony Russo (Community). The Russo brothers also directed the pilot episode, which will be airing as a special preview on August 12 on NBC. The show will be premiering on September 26 in its regular time and will be airing every Wednesday night on the network. To learn more about Animal Practice, visit the official series website.
