Only one movie is opening wide this weekend:

Opening in almost 4000 theaters is the animated feature sequel Ice Age: Continental Drift directed by Steve Martino & Mike Thurmeier and featuring the voice talent of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Jennifer Lopez, Peter Dinklage, Wanda Sykes and Aziz Ansari. John Powell who has scored the previous two films in the series is returning for the fourth installment. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music has been released on Varese Sarabande. Opening in limited release is the psychological thriller Red Lights directed by Rodrigo Cortéz and starring Robert De Niro, Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver, Joely Richardson, Toby Jones and Elizabeth Olsen. The film’s score is composed by Victor Reyes who previously scored the director’s 2010 thriller Buried. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score has been released earlier this year on Lakeshore Records when the film premiered in Europe. Also opening in limited release is the indie drama Trishna directed by Michael Winterbottom and starring Freida Pinto and Riz Ahmed. The film’s score is composed by Shigeru Umebayashi (House of Flying Daggers) and Bollywood composer Amit Trivedi is responsible for the project’s original songs. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The drama is a new adaptation of the novel Tess of the d’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy and follows the tragic relationship between the son of a property developer and the daughter of an auto rickshaw owner. Trishna premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and has been picked up by IFC Films for a release in the US. For more information about the film, visit IFC’s film website.

Also opening in select cities is the French period drama Farewell, My Queen (Les adieux à la reine) directed by Benoît Jacquot and starring Diane Kruger, Lea Seydoux and Virginie Ledoyen. Bruno Coulais (Coraline, The Chorus) has composed the movie’s original score. Quartet Records has released the composer’s music on a compilation album with two of Coulais’ other scores for the director. Visit our previous news article to learn more about the release. Already in theaters since this past Wednesday is the Swedish crime thriller Easy Money directed by Daniel Espinosa (Safe House), based on the best-selling novel Snabba Cash by Jens Lapidus and starring Joel Kinnaman. Jon Ekstrand who also provided the project’s sound has written the score for the film. Easy Money premiered in Sweden in 2010 and has been picked up by the Weinstein Company for domestic distribution.
