The only movie opening wide this weekend is the supernatural comedy Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp, Chloe Moretz, Michelle Pfeiffer, Bella Heathcoate and Eva Green. The film marks the fourteenth collaboration between the director and composer Danny Elfman. WaterTower Music has released two soundtrack albums, including the original score by the composer. The other soundtrack features the film’s classic songs by artists The Moody Blues, Iggy Pop, Donovan, The Carpenters, Barry White, T.Rex and Alice Cooper. Several interviews with Elfman have been published online over the last week. Opening in limited release is the comedy drama Girl in Progress directed by Patricia Riggen and starring Eva Mendes, Patricia Arquette, Cierra Raminez and Matthew Modine. Artists’ Addiction Records has released two soundtracks, including a score album featuring the original music composed by Christopher Lennertz. Also opening in select cities is the Australian drama The Cup directed by Simon Wincer (Quigley Down Under, Free Willy) and starring Brendan Gleeson, Stephen Curry, Daniel MacPherson and Tom Berlinson. The film’s score is composed by Bruce Rowland (The Man from Snowy River, Lightning Jack). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music has been released last year when the movie opened in Australia.
