Marc Shaiman has scored the upcoming drama The Magic of Belle Isle. The film is directed by Rob Reiner and stars Morgan Freeman as a wheelchair-bound Western novelist who takes a lakeside cabin for the summer in Belle Isle and befriends the family next door – an attractive single mom and her young daughters – who help him find inspiration again. Virginia Madsen, Madeline Carroll and Kenan Thompson are co-starring. Guy Thomas has written the script with Reiner and Andrew Scheinman and Salli Newman and David Valdes (The Green Mile, The Book of Eli) are producing the Castle Rock Entertainment production. Reiner has collaborated with Shaiman on all of his major features since 1989’s When Harry Met Sally…, including on such hit films as Misery, A Few Good Men, An American President and The Bucket List. The Magic of Belle Isle is set for a release on VOD on June 1, 2012 followed by a theatrical release on July 6 by Magnolia Pictures. For updates on the film, visit the official movie website.

Shaiman is currently executive producing and writing original songs for the NBC musical drama Smash, which has recently been renewed for a second season. He also has the family comedy Parental Guidance starring Billy Crystal, Bette Middler and Marisa Tomei coming up later this year.
