In our sixth and final part of our fall television series, we are taking a look at the major new shows on the cable networks:

One of this fall’s most talked about new shows is American Horror Story created by Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk and starring Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga and Denis O’Hare. The series has recently received two Golden Globe nominations for Best TV Drama and for Lange’s performance. The show’s score is composed by James Levine who has worked on most of Murphy’s projects in the last decade, including Nip/Tuck, Glee and the feature film Running with Scissors. The drama has also been using a lot of pre-existing score music from composers such as Bernard Herrmann and Alan Silvestri. The series’ opening theme is written by Charlie Clouser (Saw, Numbers) and sound designer Cesar Davila-Irizarry. Visit EW.com for more information and to watch the opening credits sequence. American Horror Story centers on a family that moves into a restored mansion in Los Angeles, unaware that the home is haunted by its former inhabitants. Also already renewed for a second season is the western series Hell on Wheels created by Joe and Tony Gayton and starring Anson Mount, Common, Dominique McElligott, Colm Meaney, Ben Esler, Philip Burke and Eddie Spears. Kevin Kiner (CSI: Miami, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Wing Commander) is scoring the show and Academy Award winner Gustavo Santaolalla (Babel, Brokeback Mountain) has written the theme for the opening credits. One of the fall’s biggest critical hits is the Showtime drama Homeland. The show is created by Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa and Gideon Raff and stars Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Mandy Patinkin, Morena Baccarin, David Harewood and Diego Klattenhoff. The show’s score is written by Sean Callery who has worked with the drama’s producers before on the hit show 24. Homeland has recently been nominated for three Golden Globes, including Best TV Drama and for both its lead actors. The show also landed on AFI’s Top 10 Shows of the Year list and received three WGA nominations. The season finale of the first season airs tonight on Showtime. Another new show this fall that already finished its first season run is the comedy Enlightened created by Mike White and starring Laura Dern, Diane Ladd, Luke Wilson and Timm Sharp. Carter Burwell (Fargo, Twilight) has written the music for the pilot and Mark Mothersbaugh (The Royal Tenenbaums, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) has scored the rest of the season. Enlightened has recently received two Golden Globe nominations for Best TV Comedy Series and Best Comedy Actress Laura Dern. Another new show that recently finished its first season is the Starz drama Boss created by Farhad Safinia and starring Kelsey Grammer, Kathleen Robinson, Martin Donovan, Jeff Hephner, Connie Nielsen and Hannah Ware. Brian Reitzell (Stranger than Fiction, Friday Night Lights) is writing the score for the show and also serves as the project’s music supervisor. Boss has been nominated for two Golden Globes, including Best TV drama and Grammer’s lead performance this past week. Finally, also new on cable is the half-hour comedy The Exes created by Mark Reisman and starring Donald Faison, Kristen Johnston, Wayne Knight, Alan Basche and Kelly Stables. The show’s music is written by Gabriel Mann (Modern Family). The comedy about three divorced men sharing an apartment across the hall from their female divorce attorney, who is also their landlord currently airs every Wednesday night on TV Land.
