Film Music Reporter has learned that James Newton Howard recently started scoring the upcoming comedy drama Larry Crowne. The movie is directed by Tom Hanks and stars himself as a middle-aged man, who reinvents himself after losing his job by going back to college. The movie also stars Julia Roberts, Taraji P. Henson and Pam Grier. James Newton Howard previously scored the pairing of Hanks and Roberts in Charlie Wilson’s War and scored numerous movies starring Julia Roberts including Pretty Woman, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Runaway Bride, America’s Sweethearts and most recently Duplicity. The movie’s screenplay is co-written by Hanks and Nia Vardalos, whose hit indie comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding was produced by Hanks. Universal Pictures will release Larry Crowne next summer on July 1, 2011.
As previously reported, James Newton Howard has multiple other movies coming out next year including The Green Hornet, which was recently completed, as well as Water for Elephants and Gnomeo and Juliet.
