James Newton Howard has been hired to score the upcoming drama Water for Elephants. The movie marks Newton Howard’s second collaboration with director Francis Lawrence after the 2007 I Am Legend. Lawrence recently confirmed Newton Howard’s involvement on his Twitter account. In Water for Elephants, a veterinary student abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet. The movie’s cast is lead by Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz and Hal Holbrook. The Fox 2000 movie is expected to be released in 2011.

James Newton Howard has currently two movies in theaters. M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender and Philip Noyce’s thriller Salt. The score for The Last Airbender is available on Lakeshore Records and a digital-only score album for Salt has been released by Columbia Pictures and is available on iTunes.
